Makerspace FAQ

Yes, all users must have a Timmins Public Library card in good standing. Your account information must be up to date and you cannot have any fees owed on your account, nor any outstanding or lost items.

Yes. All users are required to complete a 15-minute safety training session for the equipment they are interested in using in the makerspace.

Users must be 13 years or older to use the Makerspace. There are no exceptions. Users between the ages of 13 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Age requirements are put in place due to safety reasons. Manufacturers’ guidelines have stated age recommendations for users that we must follow.

Makerspace sessions must be booked a minimum of 24 hours in advance either in person, by phone, or by email at libraryinfo@timmins.ca (subject to staff availability).

Sessions are limited to 4 hours, and projects must be completed 30 minutes before closing. A brief description of the project you intend to work on and a list of necessary materials will be required at the time of booking.

There are no booking fees for using the Makerspace. However, there are cost recovery fees for materials and supplies used, which must be paid upon completion of the project. Staff will provide total cost estimates before any project begins, and provide a receipt of materials used at time of completion.

The library has some basic supplies available for each piece of equipment. The fees for these supplies are on a cost recovery basis and an estimate will be given before you begin your project.

Yes, users can bring in their own materials to use in the Makerspace, BUT a staff member must check and approve the materials before they can be used with the equipment.

No, but all users must complete basic safety training on each piece of equipment before being allowed to book time on that equipment. Please note, library staff can provide basic instruction and safety information, however we are not experts on the equipment in the Makerspace.
