Land Acknowledgment

The Timmins Public Library acknowledges that we are located on the traditional Lands of Mattagami First Nation, Flying Post First Nation, and Matachewan First Nation, home to many Ojibway, Cree, Oji-Cree, Algonquin and Métis people. We also acknowledge that we are situated in Treaty 9 territory (also known as the James Bay Treaty), which is steeped in the rich Indigenous history of many First Nations, Metis and Inuit People.

We make this acknowledgement as a first step in recognizing First Peoples’ long history and living culture, made with respect to Elders, both past and present.

In line with Priority 3: Inclusion in our 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, we commit to ensuring that our collections, programs, and spaces are welcoming, accessible, and reflective of our community’s full diversity—and to advancing reconciliation by supporting Indigenous-led initiatives through respectful partnerships and programming.

We honour this land acknowledgment by listening, learning, and working side by side with local Indigenous nations, the City of Timmins’ Indigenous Advisory Council, and community partners—continuously adapting our services and inviting your feedback as we build a library where everyone belongs.
